An Emergency Callout to a Nursing Home Prevents Elderly People being Temporarily Rehomed

If you have an emergency that requires immediate attention, the Rapid Response Maintenance team can react very quickly - and that’s exactly what was needed in response to a phone call from a social housing Nursing Home concerning a major water leak in their communal bathroom.

Home to 24 elderly residents, we received the job in the morning and attended the same day to ensure that the residents were disrupted as little as possible by the developing situation.

Upon arriving, we found that water was leaking through the bathroom ceiling and causing a major problem. As this was a 24-hour emergency callout, the best solution was to complete the job on the day to rectify the issue ASAP and to prevent 24 elderly people having to be re-homed whilst works took place.

Unfortunately, due to the communal bathroom being fit for disabled access, it did make co-ordinating entry through the ceiling a challenge as the bath was placed in the centre of the room itself. However, with a long history in property maintenance, there’s nothing that the Rapid Response Maintenance team haven’t come up against and we were quickly able to gain access to where they needed to be.

We worked to isolate the water supply ASAP, and then drained down the Nursing Home itself. We found the major leak was due to a pin hole on the commercial pipe water mains elbow.

Once the problem was uncovered by our team, we cut the commercial pipe back and replace the entire section and then refilled the system to test. Fortunately, our quick reaction meant that the leak wouldn’t cause more disruptions.

We also have plans to return back to the site to complete further remedial works on the ceiling, too. Our client was extremely happy with our quick attendance and our thorough work on fixing the leak the very same day!
